The Gary SoutShore RailCats offense managed just two hits and were unable to finish their six-day, seven-game road trip a perfect 7-0 after falling to the Texas AirHogs, 2-1, on Wednesday night at AirHogs Stadium in the final game of the year between the two teams. Wednesday’s loss snapped Gary’s season-high-tying eight game winning streak, however, the ‘Cats did split the two-game series after shutting out Texas, 4-0, on Tuesday.
It is time to get ready to BUMP, SET, and SPIKE for Duneland Boys & Girls Club’s 2018 Volleyball League! League registration begins July 23 and is open to all girls and boys from grades 3rd through 8th. The Club’s Volleyball League season will run from September 18 through November 17. All teams will have one practice during the week and an eight game schedule. All games will be played on Saturday at the Club.

An early 1-0 lead and three RBIs from Colin Willis wasn’t enough for Gary on Monday night in the series opener against Sioux Falls as the RailCats fell to the Canaries, 10-4, at U.S. Steel Yard. Monday’s loss snapped Gary’s five-game winning streak and was the RailCats first loss during their six-game homestand.

Calumet College of St. Joseph cross country head coaches Jackie Torres and Jonathan Jimenez, along with director of operation Rick Torres, officially revealed their 2018 schedule this afternoon from the Whiting, Ind., campus. The season, which will feature seven regular season races, will come on the heels of the most successful athletic season for running disciplines in the school’s history.
Another member of the Valparaiso University men’s basketball program will gain international experience representing his native country, as junior Markus Golder (Portland, Ore./Clackamas [North Idaho]) will suit up for the USA Team at the inaugural FISU America Games in São Paulo, Brazil later this month.
The Gary SouthShore RailCats signed outfielder Tillman Pugh for third time in the last four years and traded right-handed pitcher Yasutomo Kubo to the Sugar Land Skeeters of the Atlantic League for future considerations before Monday’s game vs. the Texas AirHogs.
