Indiana University Northwest Director of Athletics Ryan Shelton has announced the appointment of Brian Erminger as head women's volleyball coach. Erminger brings with him 18 years of volleyball coaching experience at the collegiate, club, and high school levels.
At the collegiate level, Erminger was formerly the head women's volleyball coach for Purdue University Northwest’s Westville campus, from 2012-2013 in the competitive Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Prior to Purdue Northwest, Erminger built the men's volleyball program at Calumet College of St. Joseph from the bottom up, significantly improving a Crimson Wave program that finished 0-16 in his first season and 8-13 in his second season to 15-7 in his third season. His final two teams received AVCA National Top 10 Rankings.
Erminger also served as girls’ varsity volleyball coach at Hammond High School from 1995-1999 and at Whiting High School in 2006.
"We are excited to have Brian with us as the leader of our women's volleyball program," said Shelton. "Over nearly two decades, Brian has made a lasting impact on Northwest Indiana volleyball at many levels as both a player and coach. His enthusiasm, experience, and recruiting connections are a perfect fit for the direction that we want to take our program, and we're excited about the future of RedHawks Volleyball."
The Whiting native coached for Synergy Volleyball Club from 1995-2002 and took his 15U team to a third place finish at the Junior Olympics in 1999. Erminger led the 2010-11 Altitude 17 Black ROX team to the AAU Junior Nationals and to numerous tournament victories. He also coached the 2010 Altitude 16 Black team to a first-place finish at the Asics Junior Nationals and a ninth-place finish at AAU Junior Nationals.
Erminger's accomplished 16-year club coaching career includes coaching Altitude 17/18 Black ROX and Altitude 15 Red, leading the 17/18 Black ROX team to a Silver Medal finish at the Asics Nationals Championships. Several players that Erminger has coached at the club and high school levels have gone on to very successful collegiate careers.
He has played and coached with Epic United Director Mike Mazur for over 18 years, and has also coached the 18-1's girls team for Beverly Blue Smoke out of Evergreen Park, and also coached for Synergy Volleyball Club, taking his 15 and Under team to a 3rd place finish at Junior Olympics.
Erminger attended Hammond Clark High School and continues to play in volleyball leagues regularly. He resides in the Miller Beach neighborhood in Gary.
