The Gary SouthShore RailCats signed outfielder Tillman Pugh for third time in the last four years and traded right-handed pitcher Yasutomo Kubo to the Sugar Land Skeeters of the Atlantic League for future considerations before Monday’s game vs. the Texas AirHogs.

Six members of the Valparaiso University bowling team earned All-Academic recognition from the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) for the 2017-18 campaign, while the Crusaders also earned academic honors as a team from the NTCA. The Crusaders have had at least three bowlers honored each year of the program’s existence.
One of the most historic buildings on the Valparaiso University campus, Hilltop Gym is currently in the midst of a two-year, $600,000 project as the space is renovated and improved to serve as a quality practice facility for the Valpo basketball and volleyball programs. The $350,000 lead gift for the project came from the estate of Dale F. Kempf ’62, a longtime faculty member in engineering and physics, and in his honor, the court will be named Kempf Court at Hilltop Gym. The gift supports Forever Valpo: The Campaign for Our Future.
The Gary SouthShore RailCats announced that former Japanese major league pitcher Yasutomo Kubo will sign with Gary before Wednesday’s 7:10 p.m. game and start against the Chicago Dogs. The 37-year-old is 93-84 with a 3.66 ERA and 1,097 strikeouts over 13 seasons in the Nippon Professional Baseball.
As preparations roll forward toward the 2018-19 season, the Crimson Wave women's golf program has another addition that will be hitting the links with them come the fall. Head coach Tim McGee announced today that Summer Woodring will be joining the team for the upcoming school year. Woodring, a native of Muskegon, Mich., was a member of the golf program during her time at Fruitport High School, playing on the varsity squad each season.
Two hits for the second straight game from Cole Fabio, seven innings of one-run baseball from Alex Gunn and 11 hits from the Gary offense led the RailCats to an 8-1 victory over the Cleburne Railroaders in front of 4,293 fans on Youth and Senior Day at U.S. Steel Yard on Wednesday afternoon. Eight of the nine Gary starters reached base at least once while Jack Fowler and Myles Smith secured the win with one scoreless innings each out of the bullpen.

That is all the coaching staff of the Calumet College of St. Joseph track and field program asked of Olivia Askew (SR/Munster, Ind.) as she prepared to run her final collegiate race on the biggest stage of them all. Askew clearly listened to her coaches. The outgoing senior not only set a personal best, but broke yet another school record, when she competed in the 200-meter dash at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala. on Thursday evening.
Valparaiso University softball head coach Kate Stake announced today that the program has added three more newcomers for the 2019 season. The Crusaders will welcome pitcher Jenna Edwards and infielder Megan Flores from the junior college ranks, while catcher/utility Maddie Henry joins the program as an incoming freshman.
