Spring Mill Kicks Off First Crown Point Car Cruise of the Summer

Don and Judy Reynolds have created many memories in the 2008 Corvette that Don received as a birthday present when he turned 65. Over the last decade, they’ve used the car for trips to the Grand Canyon, Florida, the east coast, and many other destinations.

One trip that the couple takes at least once every summer is the trip to downtown Crown Point to participate in the Crown Point Car Cruise Night.

Spring Mill Health Campus kicked off the inaugural cruise night of the 2018 summer season on Thursday as its sponsor.

“Crown Point is such an amazing community, and we like to involve ourselves in anything we can to partner with them,” said Kelly Pero-Petty, Spring Mill’s Regional Director of Business Development. “We are absolutely thrilled to be the first sponsors of the year for the first cruise night.”

The City of Crown Point hosts the car cruise night every Thursday starting in May and ending in September. Katelyn Cecich, Assistant Events Coordinator for the city, said the event is such a tradition in Crown Point that very little advertisement is needed.

“We do very minimal press for this, just a couple announcements on our Facebook page,” she said. “But most of these guys don’t even have Facebook. They just know that the second Thursday in May Car Cruise Night is back on.”

An estimated 200 cars came out for the season-opener. As members of the Crown Point Corvette Club, Don and Judy Reynolds enjoy checking out the cars, especially when they spot another Corvette.

“I love to see the cars and the people,” Don Reynolds said. “It’s just a good time, especially when the weather is nice like it is tonight.”

Reynolds and the many other car owners in attendance take pride in showing off something so important to them.

“I come out here just about every Thursday during the summer, for at least the last five years,” said Roger Mays, owner of a green ’55 Buick. “It’s nice to talk to the people and look at the cars. I do it all summer long.”

The event also featured a DJ playing the classics, food, and a raffle hosted by Spring Mill for two gift baskets. Spring Mill also offered brochures and some free goodies for those who stopped by the booth.

“We love to be a part of fun events and get our name out there in terms of the services that we can provide under one health campus,” Pero-Petty said. “We have everything from rehabilitation to assisted living to memory support services. We want to be what the community thinks of as the best in Northwest Indiana, and we want them to know that if they ever need our services, we’re here for them.”

Many of those who frequently attend the cruise night say that the cars and the camaraderie are their reasons for coming back week after week and year after year. Car owners get to display their prized possessions, and people of all ages get to walk around downtown Crown Point, enjoying the sunshine and marveling at the cars.

“I think the community really loves coming out and supporting Crown Point, and they love interacting with each other,” said Diana Bosse, Special Events Administrator for the city. “The car owners have a venue where they can come show off all their hard work, and people really appreciate the cars and the work they put into the cars.”

The Crown Point Car Cruise Night will continue through the summer until the last Thursday in September. For more information on this and other upcoming events, check out the City of Crown Point’s calendar.
